This incredibly boring movie features terrible acting, terrible script, terrible editing, and terrible directing. It only got made because… well, I cannot think of a single excuse for a film like this. Wasting film stock and trashing the environment… No social value whatsoever… Avoid like a plague!

Why does everyone like this movie so much?
I saw it a long time ago, so I probably shouldn’t even be writing this review as I can hardly remember a lot of it
But I DO remember that I actually couldn’t watch the whole movie.
It was cliched, boring, unrealistic and the acting really wasn’t too good. There was no real suspense to the story, no catchiness. I sat there, bored out of my mind until I decided to make a lame excuse to leave the house I was watching it at. The script was horrible and unrealistic. A lot of the lines were basically just things people would never say, and then they’d include all these things about white people being racist in ways that most white people aren’t, especially in this day in age.
Even the love story was boring. A lot of movies add a love story to whatever is going on to appeal to audiences that might not like the other story and to add more suspense…it was just so…blah.

If you want to watch a good movie that addresses REAL issues about racism/abuse etc in today’s society, there are MANY more out there (im sorry but I’m too tired to think of any specific titles at the moment) with better scripts, acting, and stories. Just search around a little.

I watched this movie last year with my brother, who forced me to watch what I knew would be a soft and sad one, and the only reason I am giving it a 2 is because Denzel Washington is in it. This movie was way too sad. I don’t like movies like this one, and can’t stand them because it is just too sad and depressing. The terrible abuse and bad things that happened to this boy was just too much to take-and when you watch the scene when he is in military confinement talking to Denzel’s character about why he can’t be intimate with women and the very next scene showing the CAUSE of it then you will see exactly what I am talking about. Just too depressing, sickening, stomach-turning, and agonizing the things that happened to him. I can only enjoy movies with action, DRAMA, suspense, and a lot of happiness to it.

I was livid when I saw this movie after reading the book. It is barely on course with the book. They could have done a much better job with that story. What a waste of good actors like Denzel and Salli Richardson.
